... try not to touch working surfaces of inserts. Let's notice that to confuse the lower inserts with top it is almost impossible, in view of asymmetry of an arrangement of the directing uvulas. Besides, the flute is provided in the top inserts. |
3. Old inserts, suitable for the use, have to be established in the block and covers of bearings strictly in a former order. 4. At installation of the pierced shaft complete with a set of company inserts of repair set of production of the Skoda company need for the checks described below disappears. 5. Check of working gaps of radical bearings has to be made in the presence of the slightest doubts in assessment of degree of wear of a shaft, and also in case of installation of the pierced shaft complete with repair inserts of not company production. Definition by a gap can be made by any of two described methods. 6. The first method more difficult in view of need of application of nutromer and Columbus, demands installation of covers of radical bearings (with the inserts enclosed in them) on the block. Tighten bolts of fastening of covers with the required effort (during check of gaps of bearings old bolts are used). Now нутромером / Columbus measure the internal diameter of each of bearings. Further it is necessary to subtract diameters of the corresponding radical necks of a bent shaft from the received results. Compare results of calculations to requirements of Specifications. 7. The second method means use of the special measuring Plastigage set. The size of a gap is determined by extent of flattening of pieces of the soft calibrated wire from set at their tightening between inserts of radical bearings and necks of a shaft. Measurement of width of the flattened-out pieces of a wire is performed on the scale applied on set packing. 8. Information on suppliers of measuring sets can be obtained at any car repair shop. 9. Enclose the top inserts of radical bearings in the beds in the block of cylinders, then carefully lay a bent shaft in the block. Do not use any lubricant - necks of a shaft have to be absolutely pure and dry.

10. Cut the corresponding quantity of pieces of the calibrated wire. Length of each of pieces has to be slightly shorter than length of radical necks of a bent shaft. Lay them along necks, parallel to an axis of the last. |
11. Wipe working surfaces of the lower inserts in covers of bearings and grease them with a thin layer of a silicone compound for the purpose of prevention of sticking of the calibrated wire. Install covers on the regular places in the engine - be verified with factory marking. Screw old fixing bolts and tighten them with the required effort. Do not allow a provorachivaniye of a bent shaft after laying on it the calibrated wire. 12. In stages evenly weaken, then turn out fixing bolts and uncover, watching to breaking integrity of the flattened-out wire pieces.

13. On the scale applied on packing of the Plastigage set determine the size of a working gap of bearings by extent of flattening of the calibrated wire - do not forget that on packing two scales can be put (inch and metric). Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications. |
14. If the size of a gap goes beyond admissible limits whether check dirt or foreign particles got under an insert back. Wipe backs of inserts and their bed and repeat check. At repetition of negative result check correctness of selection of inserts (see the Section Replacement of an Epiploon of an Intermediate Shaft). If the calibrated wire is flattened out since one end it is more, than from another, therefore, the neck has conicity and is subject to a pro-point. 15. If the size of a gap is excessive, despite correctness of selection of inserts, necks of a shaft should be pierced under installation of inserts of the following repair size (see the Section Replacement of an Epiploon of an Intermediate Shaft). 16. In conclusion, having made sure of compliance of sizes of a working gap of bearings to standard requirements, remove traces of the flattened-out wire from shaft necks, having carefully scratched out them edge of an old credit card. |

Final installation of a bent shaft
|
1. Accurately take a bent shaft from the block of cylinders. 2. According to the instructions stated above lay inserts of radical bearings in the beds in the block of cylinders and covers. At installation of new inserts track that from their surface the preserving lubricant was completely removed - wash out inserts kerosene, then carefully wipe pure неворсящейся with rags. Wipe also radical necks of a bent shaft. Plentifully grease the top inserts of radical bearings of a bent shaft in the block with pure engine oil of the required grade.

3. Put on an internal persistent washer the right pin of a bent shaft. Track that washers it was established by flutes of maslotok to a crank cheek. |
|
4. Having tracked correctness of its landing, accurately lay a bent shaft in the block of cylinders, then, grease the lower inserts and necks of a shaft with pure motive oil. |
|
5. Develop a persistent washer a uvula up that at installation of a cover of the first radical bearing it got to the reciprocal selection provided in it. |
6. According to marking, establish covers of radical bearings on the places. Achieve combination of a uvula of a persistent washer with reciprocal selection in a cover of the first bearing, then densely put a washer in reception deepening.

7. Screw bolts of fastening of covers and in stages evenly tighten them with the required effort. |
8. Check freedom of a provorachivaniye of a bent shaft and measure the size of its axial side play (see the Section Removal and check of a condition of a bent shaft). Before tightening a bolt of a pulley of a bent shaft make sure of the clearness of hit of uvulas of internal and external persistent washers in reciprocal selections in a bearing cover. The illegibility of an arrangement of washers can lead to their destruction as a result of jamming of a shaft when tightening a bolt of a pulley. 9. Remove all traces of material of old laying and sealant from the interfaced surfaces of a casing of a back epiploon and the block of cylinders.

10. Having accurately hooked, take an old epiploon from a casing and replace it new, perpendicularly having put him on a persistent coat hanger of a casing (sponges inside). In case of need use for landing of an epiploon the hammer with soft brisk. |
11. If at dismantle the casing was equipped with sealing laying, install new laying on the block, having accurately put it on the directing pins. If laying was not provided, apply a thin film of pro-masonry sealant on the interfaced casing surface.

12. Accurately putting on an epiploon a shaft pin, press a casing to the block, having tracked correctness of landing it on the directing pins. |
13. Screw fixing screws and strongly tighten them. When using laying accurately cut the acting its edge a sharp knife. 14. Now it is possible to start installation of conrod and piston assemblies (see the Section Flywheel - removal, check and installation). |

Engines of 1.6 l and diesel
|
1. Lay the block of cylinders on a pure horizontal working surface a case up. Otboltite of a cover of bearings, accurately remove them from the block and spread out as installation on the engine. If did not do it yet, take from the beds in covers and the block inserts of bearings and carefully wipe them pure неворсящейся with rags.

2. Wipe backs of inserts and their bed in the block of cylinders and covers of bearings. Enclose inserts in beds, having tracked that their uvulas entered gearing with reciprocal selections in a body of blocks/covers, and oil openings correctly were combined. 3. Once again carefully wipe with rags working surfaces of inserts and a neck of a shaft. Make sure of passability of maslotok in a body of a bent shaft. 4. Accurately enclose a bent shaft in a case - try not to allow shifts of inserts.

Definition of a working gap of radical bearings
|
1. Address materials of the subsection Definition of a Working Gap of Radical Bearings with that amendment that fixture of covers has to drag on only with effort of the 1st stage. Final installation of a bent shaft 2. Carefully take a bent shaft from the block. Wipe surfaces of inserts. Establish persistent washers (half rings) on both sides of the bed No. 3 located between the second and third cylinders. For temporary fixing of half rings use jellied lubricant and track correctness of landing them in reception selections.

3. Oil the top inserts of bearings pure motive. 4. Enclose a bent shaft in the block so that cranks of the second and third cylinders appeared in provisions of VMT, and the first and fourth - in NMT.

5. Grease the lower inserts in covers of bearings, establish persistent half rings in selections of a cover of the 3rd bearing. The acting uvulas of half rings have to get to reciprocal deepenings on cover walls. |
|
6. In the correct order install covers of radical bearings on the engine (the first the bearing, the next to a GRM drive belt is). Track that selections under the directing uvulas of inserts in covers and beds of the block were combined. Screw bolts of fastening of covers (on the diesel engine - new) and tighten them from installation. |
|
7. Moving from the center outside, tighten bolts with effort of the first stage. |
8. Working in a former order, hold on bolts on a corner of the 2nd stage of tightening (use a goniometer or the template which is specially made of a dense cardboard). 9. Establish assembly of a casing of a back epiploon with the new epiploon enclosed in it. 10. Check freedom of a provorachivaniye of a bent shaft. In case of identification of breakthroughs and points of a zakusyvaniye, without postponing, investigate and remove the cause - double-check working gaps in bearings. 11. Check an axial side play of a shaft (see the Section Removal and installation of a cover of a head of cylinders). If persistent surfaces of a shaft are not worn-out, and half rings are replaced, the side play has to be normal. |
