1. Efficiency of return of the power unit considerably depends on serviceability of functioning of spark plugs. It is important that candles on the standard size corresponded to the engine installed on the car. On condition of implementation of the mentioned requirements and serviceability of a condition of the engine of a spark plug seldom need attention, besides need of performing procedures of routine maintenance of the car. Need for cleaning of candles arises also extremely seldom, the procedure has to be made only with use of the special equipment, otherwise the risk of damage of working parts of electrodes is extremely high.
2. Before starting a reversing of candles wait for full cooling of the engine.
3. For the purpose of ensuring access to candles turn out three screws of fastening established over the cover throttle case. Pay attention that the forward screw is longer remained two. Release from clamps on the lower party of a cover all hoses and wires, then uncover.
4. In the absence of factory marking on VV wires of spark plugs, mark wires independently by means of an adhesive tape according to numbering of cylinders (it is considered the first the next to a GRM drive belt). Try not to damage isolation of wires.
5. Tips of VV of candle wires are equipped with metal thermofilters. Accurately remove tips from shafts of candles (in order to avoid damage of the contact plug pull only for a tip, but not for a wire at all).
6. Before turning out candles it is necessary to remove small garbage and dirt from candle niches - use a small brush, or blow niches compressed air (it is possible to use the ordinary bicycle pump).

7. By means of the special key equipped with an elastic insert turn out spark plugs. In order to avoid damage of a carving try not to warp candles during a reversing.

8. The external condition of candles can give a lot of useful information about degree of wear of the engine. If the working end of a candle shines and is free from raids and deposits, therefore, in combustion chambers too poor air-fuel mix moves, or the candle has excessively high kalilny number (heat removal in a hot candle comes from electrodes less intensively, than in cold).
9. If the working end of a candle and the internal central isolation center are covered with a thick layer of sazhisty deposits, therefore mix is too enriched. The black color of a working part of a candle in a combination to traces of oil testifies to internal wear of the engine, or also excessive enrichment of mix.
10. Golden or grayish-brown coloring of a working part of a spark plug is the evidence of the correct configuration of air-fuel mix and good internal state of the engine.

11. On the considered engines of the Skoda cars multielectrode candles are used (see an accompanying illustration). Interelectrode gaps on such candles are exposed industrially and are not subject to adjustment.
