Diagnostics of malfunctions of system of ignition and check of a condition of its components

When performing any works on service of components of system at the included ignition it is necessary to observe special precautionary measures. On the models equipped with system of ignition Simos 2P where the distributor is not provided, only extremely narrow range of checks can be made by forces of the average amateur mechanic.

In case of any problems connected with violation of functioning of system of ignition always first of all check quality of contact connections of an electrical wiring on the bobbin module and the RPM meter and provisions of a bent shaft. Also estimate a condition of isolation of an electrical wiring.

Check quality of landing of the bobbin module on all spark plugs. Also check a condition actually of candles - you remember that candles in systems of ignition with a single spark are subject to the increased wear.

The majority of refusals of systems of ignition are connected with violation of quality of contact connections of a chain, or with leakages of current in VV a contour. Leaks usually happen owing to formation of the coal paths appearing as a result of electric breakdowns at excessive pollution, moistening or mechanical destruction of components. Before making the decision on replacement of the suspected component always at first check an electrical wiring. Malfunction in NV of a part of system of ignition can be a cause of infringement of sparking. Check serviceability of giving of food in 12 V for the ignition coil. Estimate a condition of contact connections and an electrical wiring. Check actually the coil. Malfunction of the switch of ignition, or combustion of a safety lock can be the reason of lack of food on the coil.

Check of a condition of components of system of ignition


Information provided in this subsection belongs only to systems with the ignition distributor.

1. The condition of VV (candle) wires has to be checked every time when replacing spark plugs.
2. At a wire detachment from a candle it is necessary to pull only for its tip. Otherwise there is a risk of damage of contact plugs.

Before disconnecting candle wires, make sure available on them factory marking. In case of need mark wires independently by means of an adhesive tape, having inscribed on them numbers of the corresponding cylinders.

3. Check an internal surface of a tip of a wire for existence of traces of corrosion in the form of a white powdery raid. Densely pull a tip on a spark plug shaft, having tracked reliability of its landing. In case of need again disconnect a wire and correct position of the contact plug in a tip.
4. Carefully wipe with pure rags wire VV on all their length, deleting traces of dirt and lubricant from the surface of isolation. Having cleared wires, check them for existence of progar, cracks and other damages of isolation. Try not to bend excessively wires in order to avoid risk of injury of veins of the conductor.
5. Disconnect the second end of a wire from the plug on an ignition distributor cover (besides pull only for a tip!). Check a tip for existence of traces of corrosion. In the presence of near at hand ohmmeter determine the specific resistive resistance of a wire. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications. At connection of a wire track reliability of landing of a tip on the plug.
6. Working in a similar manner, check a condition of all VV of wires of system of ignition, including main, going from the central plug on a distributor cover to the ignition coil.
7. Replaceable VV of a wire should be got the set which is specially released for use on cars of this brand.

Distributor cover


1. Release spring clamps and uncover the ignition distributor. Carefully wipe a cover and attentively examine it from the internal and external parties regarding identification of cracks, coal paths, the burned-through contacts and other damages. Estimate degree of wear of coal brushes, check freedom of their movement in holders and pressing density to the contact surface of the runner.

2. In order to avoid violation of an order of ignition do not disconnect from the subject replacement of a cover at the same time all wires. Having serially transferred wires to plugs of a new cover, strongly fix the last by fixing screws / spring clamps.
3. Having finished service of system sprinkle a surface of components of its VV of a part a moisture absorber.

Distributor runner


1. Uncover the distributor.

2. Check an external condition of the runner. Strictly speaking, the runner can be changed together with a distributor cover regardless of their state along with installation of new VV of wires, however, in view of the fact that on models of 1.3 l the runner is very densely put on a distributor shaft, it is necessary to consult previously with specialists of car service. On models of 1.6 l the runner easily is removed from a shaft

3. Check a condition of contacts of the runner - one of them is located in the central part of a component and constantly contacts coal contact of the central plug of a cover of the distributor, to the second serve a working part of a nose which serially adjoins to segment contacts of plugs of candle wires in a cover. By means of a fine-grained emery paper smooth out contact surfaces, having completely removed from them traces of coal deposits.
4. Installation is made upside-down. Track that the directing ledge of the runner entered reciprocal deepening of a shaft of the distributor, only after it start installation of a cover.

Ignition coil


1. Disunite NV the ignition coil socket, and also disconnect from it the main VV a distributor wire.

2. Connect the universal measuring instrument of electric chains between plugs 1 (1) and 15 (+) (see an accompanying illustration) and measure the resistive resistance of primary winding of the coil. compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications.

3. Now connect the device between VV the plug (4) and the plug 15 (+) and measure resistance of a secondary winding. Compare result to the value stipulated in Specifications.
4. Restore initial connection of an electrical wiring.
5. If right after an engine stop the case of the coil is hot to the touch, it can indicate existence of damages of internal isolation.
