Replacement of rubber protective covers of CV JOINTS of power shafts

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Remove a power shaft (see the Section Removal and installation of power shafts) and the corresponding CV JOINT.

External CV JOINT

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

2. Clamp a power shaft in a vice with soft sponges and release bandage tapes of fastening of a protective cover of the external CV JOINT.

In case of need bandage tapes can be cut simply off.

3. Turn off a cover so that access to the hinge opened. Remove excess of lubricant.

4. Sharp blows of the hammer through a drift by an internal part of the hinge bring down the last from a shaft. The hinge is fixed on a shaft by a lock ring. At assembly knocking down in the described way the ring gets to specially provided flute on a shaft that allows to remove the CV JOINT freely.

5. Having removed the hinge, take a lock ring from the flute and you will throw out it - at assembly the ring is subject to replacement without fail.
6. Remove a rubber protective cover of the CV JOINT from a shaft.
7. Carefully wash out the removed hinge kerosene or other suitable solvent. Make visual check of a condition of internal components of assembly.
8. Moving an internal part of the hinge, serially examine each of balls in their top situation. Pay attention to cracks, flattening and cavities.
9. Check guides in internal and external holders of assembly for existence of the developed sites where density of landing of balls is broken. At the same time check a condition of a separator - existence of cracks between windows is inadmissible.
10. The worn-out or damaged hinge is subject to replacement. If the CV JOINT is recognized suitable for further use, prepare a new protective cover, bandage tapes, a lock ring and lubricant for stuffing of the CV JOINT (see Specifications).

11. Wind pin vents with an adhesive tape and accurately put on a new protective cover of the CV JOINT a shaft. Try not to allow shifts of the plastic plugs installed in its internal sponges in the course of putting on of a cover.

12. Remove an adhesive tape and put a new lock ring on a shaft. Track correctness of landing of a ring in a flute on a shaft.

13. Fill the hinge fresh lubricant. Hammer the lubricant which remained in packing into a cover.

14. Get the CV JOINT on a pin of a shaft and get its edge from above on a lock ring. Sharp blows of the hammer with soft brisk by an external part of the hinge, put the last on a shaft. Having pulled assembly, make sure of reliability of its fixing on a shaft a lock ring.

15. Put external sponges of a cover in a flute on assembly of the CV JOINT, fix internal sponges on a shaft fillet. Having raised an inner edge of a cover, let out from under it the air.
16. Make sure of correctness of landing of a cover, then fix it by bandage tapes.

Bandage tapes of two types are issued.

17. Most often for fastening of protective covers of CV JOINTS the bandage tapes which are simply wrapped around a cover and fixed by tightening of speakers of sections are used. In lack of the special tool tightening of clamps of a bandage can be made by means of flat-nose pliers or bokorez (act extremely carefully incidentally not to have a bite a tape).

18. Bandage tapes in the form of the metal strips equipped from one of the ends with a pryazhechny bracket are less widespread. After a reversing around a cover the free end of a tape is passed through a groove in a buckle. Correctly having placed a tape on a cover, arm with the special hook made of a welding electrode and flat-nose pliers. Having densely fitted a tape a cover, unbend its free end back and throw it through a buckle. Bokorezami you obkusit surplus of a tape behind a buckle, then densely press the remained "tail" down.

19. Make sure of reliability of fixing of a cover, then check freedom of rotation of the hinge in all directions. Now the shaft can be installed on the car (see the Section Removal and installation of power shafts).

Internal CV JOINT

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Clamp a shaft in a vice with soft sponges and release bandage tapes of fastening of a protective cover of the internal CV JOINT.

In case of need tapes can be cut off.

2. Turn off a cover back, having opened access to the hinge. Give excess of lubricant, then by means of paint or a marker mark position of the case of the hinge otnostileno in bulk.
3. Remove the face feedwell from the hinge case and throw off the case from a shaft. Try not to allow losses of rollers from tripodny assembly - wipe the last and wind it outside with an adhesive tape.

Installation of all internal components of the hinge strictly in a former order has paramount importance therefore it is necessary to take care of observance of adjusting provision of tripodny assembly in the course of removal of the case. Violation of this requirement can lead to essential reduction of service life of the CV JOINT.

4. Remove the feedwell of the external case from a shaft, having thrown it through tripodny assembly. Try to remember adjusting position of the feedwell.

5. Mark the provision of tripodny assembly in relation to a shaft. Give a lock ring and remove assembly from a shaft pin. If tripodny is put on a shaft too hardly, use a 2-nozhechny stripper for her removal. Captures of legs of a stripper are started under an internal part of assembly - do not allow contact a knife with rollers. Alternatively prop up an internal part of assembly and squeeze out of it a shaft by means of a hydraulic press - at all do not put loading to rollers.

6. After removal of tripodny assembly the protective cover of the hinge can be removed from a shaft.
7. Carefully wash out hinge components kerosene or other suitable solvent - try not to wash away landing tags. Make careful survey of the hinge.
8. Check a crosspiece and rollers of tripodny assembly for existence of signs of wear. Examine the external case and its face feedwell. Estimate freedom of rotation of rollers. In case of identification of any sort of defects replace the hinge. If the CV JOINT is recognized suitable for further use, prepare new bandage tapes, a protective cover, a lock ring and necessary amount of lubricant of the required grade (see Specifications).

9. Wind shaft pin vents with an adhesive tape. Accurately put on a protective cover of the CV JOINT a shaft, having put him in a reception flute.

10. Remove an adhesive tape, and put on the feedwell of the external case of the hinge a shaft (track that the feedwell was deployed correctly).
11. Trying to obtain combination of the landing tags put in the course of dismantle, put on tripodny assembly shaft pin vents. Accurately begin to knock assembly on the regular place (use the hammer and a drift from soft metal). Try not to damage a vent and a shaft and hinge rollers.

12. Record tripodny assembly on a shaft by means of a new lock ring. track correctness of landing of a ring in the flute.

13. Remove the adhesive tape which is wrapped up around rollers, then put on the external case of the hinge.

14. Track combination of the landing tags put in the course of dismantle. Having made sure of correctness of installation of components, fix the case by the feedwell.

15. Evenly fill lubricant of a cavity of tripodny assembly and the external case of the hinge. Hammer the remains of lubricant into a cover.

16. Bring external sponges of a protective cover to a flute on the external case of the hinge, then accurately raise edge, letting out the air.

17. According to the instructions provided in paragraphs 17 and 18 of subsection the External CV JOINT fix a cover by two bandage tapes.

18. Check freedom of rotation of the CV JOINT in all directions, then establish a power shaft on the regular place on the car (see the Section Removal and installation of power shafts).
