Removal and installation of a belt of the GRM drive and its covers

General information

The main function of a gear belt is the camshaft drive from cranked. In parallel the belt is used also for the drive of the water pump of the cooling system of the engine. Slipping or break of a gas-distributing belt at the working engine can lead to serious internal damages of a head of cylinders as a result of contact of valves with the bottoms of pistons. Jamming of the water pump, wetting of a belt the cooling liquid following through a faulty epiploon of the pump, and also strong wear or mechanical damage of a tape or teeths of a belt can become the reason of such troubles.

In view of told, extreme importance is gained by a regularity of performance of checks of correctness of adjustment of effort of a tension of a belt and its general state. Performance of these checks becomes possible only after dismantle of covers of a belt.

Removal of internal section of a cover of a gas-distributing belt is included in structure of the procedure of replacement of an epiploon of the camshaft (see the Section Replacement of an Epiploon of the Camshaft).

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before starting implementation of the procedure it is necessary to make an immobilization of the engine and car:
a) Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with the security device before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct code for input of the audio system in action.

b) Prop up wedges back wheels of the car and cock the parking brake. Transfer a control lever of RKPP to neutral situation;
c) Release bolts of fastening of the right forward wheel, then a front of the car and establish to a poddomkratta it on props.
2. For the purpose of ensuring the best access to covers remove the air cleaner and an air sleeve from a mudguard of an arch of a wheel and a final collector. Take the probe of measurement of motive oil and move away him aside.
3. Hang out the engine by means of the winch, or having propped up it a hydraulic jack (for the purpose of distribution of loading, between a head of a jack and the pallet of a case it is necessary to lay wooden whetstone).

4. In stages release and turn out two bolts of a support of the power unit located directly under a pulley of a bent shaft. Remove washers.

5. Slightly lower the engine, having provided free space for removal of a pulley of a bent shaft.
6. Take off a belt of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Section Removal, installation and adjustment of effort of a tension of a belt of the drive of auxiliary units).
7. Holding a pulley from a provorachivaniye for the central bolt, turn out four fixing bolts. Remove a pulley.

For a guarantee of reliable blocking of a pulley in the course of an otdavaniye of bolts of its fastening include the highest transfer (do not forget to switch to a neutral after removal of a pulley again) and ask the assistant to squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake firmly. It is possible to use also rubber cord / an old driving belt, having densely wrapped up it around a pulley.

8. Release two clamps, turn out a bolt (on models of the last years of release - 2 bolts) and remove the top cover of a gas-distributing belt.

9. Release a back clamp, turn out two bolts and remove the lower cover of a belt. For the purpose of ensuring access to a forward bolt on the models equipped with the power steering or To/in by means of the key which is put on the central bolt take away the party a natyazhitel of an auxiliary driving belt, turning it clockwise. In case of need the natyazhitel can be removed completely for what it is necessary to give the central bolt, rotating it counterclockwise and to remove it together with a washer.
10. Bring the engine into the provision of VMT (see the Section Reduction of the Piston of the First Cylinder in the provision of the top dead point (TDP) of the end of a step of compression).
11. Check a belt for existence of factory direction signs of rotation. In case of need put the corresponding marking independently (if of course the belt is in satisfactory condition and is subject to further use).

12. Give a lock-nut and, having allowed a natyazhitel to be developed clockwise, weaken a belt.

13. Without allowing a provorachivaniye of shaft, take off a belt from cogwheels. Try not to overwind a belt and excessively not to bend it.

14. Check a belt for existence of traces of pollution by cooling liquid or oil. In case of detection of those, try to reveal immediately a source of leak and to remove its cause. Special attention should be paid to a condition of the leading edges of teeths of the working party of a belt. The worn-out, polluted or defective belt is subject to replacement.

Through each 50 000 km (30 000 miles) of a run the belt should be changed regardless of its state.

15. If the belt at once back is not established, on the engine it is necessary to hang the precautionary plate on purpose not to allow a casual provorachivaniye of its shaft. For a guarantee it is possible to seal up just in case the ignition lock.

INSTALLATION

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check correctness of combination of adjusting tags of cogwheels of both shaft (see the Section Reduction of the Piston of the First Cylinder in the provision of the top dead point (TDP) of the end of a step of compression).

2. Put on a belt a cogwheel at first of a bent shaft, then the water pump and, in conclusion - the camshaft. Track observance of the required direction of rotation of a belt.

3. Without allowing twisting, get a belt the smooth party under a roller of a natyazhitel. Track that a forward part of a belt was hardly tense, and all weak point fell on the site got under a roller of a natyazhitel.

4. Slightly tighten a lock-nut, then the prutkovy key inserted into an adjusting opening develop eccentric assembly of a natyazhitel clockwise, choosing a belt weak point.

5. Continue to develop a natyazhitel until the sliding index is not combined with selection in an assembly basis plate. Tighten a lock-nut.

6. By means of a face key turn a bent shaft on two whole revolutions for a cogwheel bolt, again having stopped it in the provision of VMT of the end of a step of compression of the piston of the first cylinder. Make sure of correctness of combination of adjusting tags (see the Section Reduction of the Piston of the First Cylinder in the provision of the top dead point (TDP) of the end of a step of compression). Double-check correctness of installation of the sliding index of a natyazhitel, in case of need repeat adjustment.
7. Check serviceability of functioning of a natyazhitel (see the Section Removal, check of a state and installation of cogwheels and a natyazhitel of a belt of the GRM drive).
8. Establish into place the lower and top sections of an external cover of a gas-distributing belt. Latch clamps and strongly tighten fixing bolts.

Fastening bolts the lower cover are subject to replacement without fail.

9. Establish a pulley of a belt of the drive of auxiliary units on a cogwheel of a bent shaft, having tracked that the small opening of a pulley got on a lug on a face surface of a cogwheel. Screw fixing bolts and tighten them with the required effort (block a pulley from a provorachivaniye).

10. Establish into place a belt of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Section Removal, installation and adjustment of effort of a tension of a belt of the drive of auxiliary units).
11. Raise the engine, having provided a possibility of connection of the right support of a suspension bracket of the power unit.
12. Tighten bolts of fastening of the right support with the required effort. Remove a jack / disconnect a lifting rigging.
13. Connect a sleeve of supply of the warmed-up air to a casing of a final collector and the air cleaner. Return to the working condition of system of ignition and food.
14. Connect a negative wire to the battery.
15. In conclusion check correctness of installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition (see the Head Elektrooborudovaniye of the engine).
