Introduction

The complex of the elementary checks which are taking away time minimum, but allowing to avoid contingencies for performance by a time of expensive repair is among procedures of obligatory regular service of the vehicle.

These checks have to be made weekly and do not demand any special skills and ability to use special tools from the performer.
 
 - You watch a state and pressure of a rating of tires - timely detection of defects will allow not only to raise service life of protectors, but also to avoid hit in an emergency.

  - A large number of refusals is connected with malfunctions of electric equipment. The violations connected with a condition of the rechargeable battery are the most typical.

  - Remember that the first sign of emergence of leak of brake fluid is violation of serviceability of braking of the car. regular check of level of liquid will allow to avoid hit in an emergency.

  - Remember that the damages connected with a lack of engine oil or cooling liquid can demand carrying out very expensive repair. Regularly check levels of the mentioned working liquids. Try to reveal leaks in time and to remove their cause.

Check of level of motive oil

It is carried out before a trip, or not less than 5 min. later after switching off of the engine. Otherwise a part of oil will be distributed on a surface of the greased components of the engine and check will yield the underestimated result. The car has to be parked on the flat horizontal platform, whenever possible with a hard coating.

Modern cars are very sensitive to the choice of the engine oil which is filled in in the engine. Try to adhere to the recommendations provided in appropriate section of Introduction to the present manual.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Take the probe of motive oil which handle is usually painted in bright color.

2. Dry wipe an edge of the probe pure неворсящейся with rags, enter the probe back into the directing tube (against the stop) and again take it.

3. Level of oil has to be between the marks MIN and MOVE in a probe edge. If the region of the moistened site of an edge is near the mark MIN, add the corresponding amount of engine oil of the same grade that is already filled in the engine.

4. Oil is filled in in the engine through a special mouth which it is previously necessary to uncover. Fill in oil in the small portions, every time checking its level on the probe and maintaining the pauses sufficient for running off of the filled-in portion in the case pallet. Continue procedures until the level of oil does not appear between marks in a probe edge.

5. If need for adjustment of level of engine oil arises too often, it is necessary to check the unit for existence of signs of leaks. It is the simplest to reveal leaks it is possible, having left the blank sheet of a cardboard under the car parked for the night. If there are no leaks, its burning out can be the reason of a consumption of oil (see Diagostik's Section of malfunctions of knots and systems of the car).

6. Try to support oil level between marks in a probe edge (see above). Excessive falling of level can bring to damage of internal components of the engine as a result of oil starvation. Excess of-level norm usually leads to failure of epiploons of a bent shaft.


Check of level of cooling liquid

In order to avoid receiving burns the ferry, do not uncover a jellied mouth of a broad tank at the hot engine at all!

Remember that cooling liquid is highly toxic - do not leave open a container with antifreeze!

In order to avoid development of internal corrosion of components the cooling system has to be filled with antifreeze mix with water during the whole year, and not just in winter months. Try not to allow fluidifying of cooling liquid, using clear water for adjustment of its level.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Liquid level in a broad tank of the cooling system can vary depending on engine temperature. Norm is finding of level between the marks MIN and MOVE in a translucent wall of a tank at the cold engine. During warming up of the engine the level of liquid can rise slightly over mark MOVE.

2. In case of need adjustments of level of cooling liquid wait for full cooling of the engine. Having slowly turned off a tank cover, dump residual internal pressure in system.

Completely to avoid risk of a scalding a cover before an otvorachivaniye it will be better to wrap up rags.

3. Add in a tank correctly the made antifreeze mix with water. Continue to fill in liquid until its level does not appear between the marks MIN and MOVE in tank walls.

4. In cooling systems of tight type, typical for the majority of modern cars, need for adjustment of level of cooling liquid arises only in case of development of leaks. The most typical sources of leaks are the radiator case, hoses and joints of the components of the power unit interfaced among themselves. Try to remove the causes of the revealed leaks immediately.


Check of level of brake fluid

Remember that brake fluid is highly toxic and is aggressive in relation to paint and varnish coverings - observe the appropriate measures of precaution.


Brake fluid is also extremely hygroscopic, i.e. has ability to absorb moisture from the atmosphere. Do not use for adjustment of level long time the liquid stored in leaky closed container - availability of moisture in it leads to dangerous decrease in efficiency of braking.

In process of wear of brake shoes liquid level in the GTTs tank falls due to gradual promotion of pistons of supports and wheel cylinders a little. However it is not necessary to allow falling of level of liquid below the mark MIN in a tank wall.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The translucent tank of brake fluid is located on the left partition of a motive compartment. Marks of level of liquid are put on a forward wall of the tank.

2. Level of brake fluid has to be supported constantly between marks in a tank wall. Before adjustment performance (if need for that takes place) carefully wipe a cover of a jellied mouth of the tank and the surface surrounding it in order to avoid hit in hydraulic system of dirt.

3. Turn off a cover and its removal from a tank mouth is careful. Try not to damage the float of the sensor switch of a control lamp of level of brake fluid which is built in in a cover. Lay assembly of a cover with a float on the blank sheet of a cardboard or the spread rags, then attentively examine the tank outside. At identification of signs of pollution of brake fluid the hydraulic system should be emptied and filled with fresh liquid.

4. Accurately add in the tank fresh liquid from just open container. Try not to allow hits of splashes on surfaces of the components located on proximity and a paint and varnish covering of body panels. For adjustment of level use only liquid of the required grade. Remember that mixing of liquids of various grade is not admissible at all!

5. If need for adjustment of level of brake fluid arises too often, it is necessary to check hydraulic system for existence of leaks which causes have to be immediately removed.

In the presence of suspicions on existence of leak of brake fluid it is necessary to refrain from operation of the car before performance of careful check of system.


Check of a state and pressure of a rating of tires

It is extremely important to support constantly tires in good repair and pumped up with due pressure - a wheel exit out of operation during the movement (at any speed) is extremely dangerous. Speed of wear of protectors of tires first of all is defined by a driving manner - frequent sharp braking and accelerations, commission of turns without reduction of speed, etc. factors considerably promote reduction of service life of tires. As a rule, protectors of forward wheels wear out slightly earlier back therefore timely performance of rotation of wheels of the car allows to achieve more uniform wear of tires and, as a result, extension of term of their service. It is necessary to notice, however, that at uniform wear of protectors the owner of the car faces need of performance of single replacement of four wheels at once that not to each motorist can appear on a pocket. In this case it is better to neglect rotation of wheels and to make replacement of tires in pairs, rassosredotochivy thereby expenditure.

Regularly examine protectors of all wheels of the car, taking the small stones which got stuck in them, nails and other foreign objects from protector pattern flutes before they cause a wheel puncture. If at extraction nailing the puncture fact is elicited, insert a nail back into an opening, having marked with that defect, then change a wheel and bring him in a tire workshop for repair.

Pay also attention to such defects as cracks, cuts, swellings ("egg"), etc. which are most often formed on the side surface of the tire. Regularly remove wheels for careful cleaning of disks of dirt as with external, and from the inside. Check oboda of disks for existence of traces of development of corrosion, deformations and other damages. Remember that the disks made of light alloy easily fail at arrivals on curbs and deep defects of a covering. Stamped disks in such situations usually are only deformed and can be restored by rolling on the special machine which is available practically in any tire workshop. In case of strong damages disks are not subject to restoration, and their replacement becomes the only alternative.

Every time when replacing tires of a wheel are subject to balancing assembled. Need for repeated balancing of wheels can arise in the course of wear of protectors, and also in case of loss of counterbalances. Violation of balancing of wheels leads to reduction of service life of protectors due to acceleration of their wear. Besides, during the movement vibration load of components of a suspension bracket and steering considerably increases. The first sign of violation of balancing of wheels is emergence of the noticeable vibrations especially noticeable at certain speeds of the movement (usually around 80 km/h [50 miles/h]). If vibration is transferred mainly to a steering wheel, therefore violation of balancing only of forward wheels takes place. At body vibration it is necessary to balance all wheels of the car. Balancing of wheels has to be made in the conditions of a tire workshop.

Visual check of degree of wear of a protector

The Skoda Felicia brands of a wheel which are included in a basic equipment of cars are usually equipped with the built-in indicators of wear of protectors. Indicators represent the color strips of rubber (V) which are built in in a middle part of a protector and shown at wear of the last up to the residual depth of a pattern it is lower than 1.6 mm. Location of indicators on a protector is determined by the triangular tags put the side surface of the tire (A).

Check of pressure of a rating of tires has to be made regularly and on cold wheels. Performance of adjustment of pressure right after end of a trip when the wheel did not cool down yet, will lead only to violation of the required parameters.


Typical examples of wear of protectors

Humeral wear

Uniform humeral wear of a protector (identical from both of its parties) usually is defined by an excessive deflection of the tire as a result of too weak pressure of its rating and is followed by a tire overheat, decrease in coupling with a paving and reduction of service life of a wheel, not to mention the increased danger of a rupture of the tire during the movement. Check and modify pressure of a rating of tires.

Unilateral humeral wear of a protector is most often connected with violation of angles of installation of a wheel. It is necessary to check immediately geometrical parameters of a suspension bracket and to make the corresponding corrections.

One more of the reasons of humeral wear of a protector is too sharp manner of driving - reduce speed on turns!


Central wear

Excessive pressure of a rating of the tire leads to more dense contact with a paving of the central part of a protector that leads to the accelerated operation of the last. Among by-effects it should be noted decrease in coupling of a wheel with a paving, increase in rigidity of the course of the car, not to mention increase in risk of an unexpected rupture of the tire. Check and modify pressure of a rating of tires.

Sometimes temporary increase in pressure in tires is necessary as, for example, in cases of transportation of heavy freights, at long driving with high speeds, etc. Do not forget to dump pressure in tires to normal at return to usual service conditions of the car.


Uneven wear


Uneven wear of protectors of tires of forward wheels can be connected with violation of angles of installation of the last. It is possible to check and modify geometry of a forward suspension bracket of the car for rather small payment practically in any tire workshop.

At violation of disorder or vybeg of wheels it is necessary to make necessary repair or replacement of the failed suspension bracket components.

Do not forget to check and to properly modify balancing of wheels.

At violation of convergence of wheels it is necessary to make the corresponding adjustments also.

Scaly wear of a protector by which violation of convergence of wheels usually is followed the easiest is defined to the touch.


Check of level of liquid of washing of a windshield

The tank located in a motive compartment is used for washing of both wind, and back glasses of the car.


Addition in the washing liquid of patent screen wipers not only facilitates purification of glass in rainy weather, but also raises a mix freezing point. It is not necessary to add simple water as it leads to fluidifying of mix and decrease in temperature of its freezing to the tank of system of washing of glasses.

Use as additive to liquid of washing of glass of the antifreeze applied in the cooling system of the engine is fraught with damage of a paint and varnish covering of nearby body panels!


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The tank of liquid of washing wind (and where it is required, and back) glasses is located at the left in a forward part of a motive compartment.

2. Check of level of liquid is made through translucent walls of the tank. In need of performance of adjustment uncover the tank.

Check of level of liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel (PAS)

Preparation

 
  -  Park the car on the flat horizontal platform, whenever possible with a hard coating.
   -  Having left the engine working at single turns, two-three times slowly turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop, then establish it in rectilinear situation and kill the engine.
   -  Check of level of hydraulic liquid is made at the killed engine. The system has to be previously heated-up up to the normal working temperature.

For a guarantee of correctness of the taken readings it is not necessary to rotate a steering wheel after an engine stop.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The tank of the PAS system is located at the left in a forward part of a motive compartment of the car. Before removal of a cover of a jellied/control mouth carefully wipe the surface of the tank. Otvorachivany covers it is made by means of the suitable tool filled in specially provided groove.

2. Having turned off a cover, pure неворсящейся carefully wipe with rags an edge of the probe which is built in in it. Establish a cover into place, having tightened it by hand, then again remove.

3. Determine the level of hydraulic liquid by the size of the moistened site of an edge of the probe. At the cold engine the level of liquid has to be near the mark MIN, at hot - between top (MOVE) and lower (MIN) marks in a probe edge. In case of need add the corresponding amount of hydraulic liquid of the required grade in the tank. In conclusion densely tighten a tank cover.

4. Need of a frequent regular doliv of PAS liquid speaks about existence of leaks in system which reasons have to be immediately established and eliminated.

Check of a condition of brushes of screen wipers

At the description of the procedure of replacement of brushes seen below treats only screen wipers of a factory complete set of the Skoda Felicia cars.


If replacement of brushes does not lead to the dirt spreading termination. Just it is necessary to try to wipe glass with application of one of special cleaners.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check a condition of rubber working elements of brushes. In case of identification of cracks, material aging traces and also if the brush badly clears the surface of glass, make its replacement. Replacement of brushes regardless of a condition of their working elements has to be made annually.

2. For replacement of a brush take away the lever from glass in the extreme situation. Develop a brush under 90 °, then wring out a lock uvula and remove a brush from the lever. At installation of a new brush track reliability of fixing it on the lever. Make sure also of correctness of an arrangement of a brush on glass.

3. Do not forget to check a condition of a brush of a cleaner of back glass.


Check of a condition of the rechargeable battery

Do not forget about need of observance of special precautionary measures at service of the rechargeable battery! Remember the dangers connected with a possibility of receiving electric shock, creation of short circuit, hit in eyes on skin and the painted surfaces of body panels of chemically aggressive electrolyte!


  - Make sure of serviceability of a condition of the pallet of the battery. Check reliability of fixing of the battery on the pallet a clamping level. Corrosion traces from the pallet, a clamping level and the case of the battery can be removed by means of solution of baking soda. At the end carefully rinse the processed surfaces with clear water. The metal surfaces damaged by corrosion have to be covered with special primer on a zinc basis, and then are painted.
  - Regularly (approximately time in three months) check battery charge level.
  - In case of replanting of the battery start of the engine can be carried out from the external power supply
.

Suspension of development of corrosion of plugs and terminal clips is promoted by processing by their acid-free vaseline.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The battery is located in a back part of a motive compartment of the car. External survey of the case of the battery on existence of cracks and other damages has to be made regularly.

2. Check durability of zatyagivaniyaklemmny clips of wires of the battery guaranteeing reliability of electric contact. Clips should not be turned freely on plugs. In parallel check a condition of isolation of wires.

3. At identification on plugs of traces of development of corrosion in the form of powdery deposits of white color remove clips from plugs and carefully smooth out the damaged surfaces a rigid brush. Establish clips into place and strongly tighten them.

In shops of automobile accessories it is possible to buy special devices for cleaning of polar plugs of the battery.

4. Also special rigid brushes for cleaning of internal surfaces of terminal clips are issued.


Check of a condition of lamps of lighting fixtures and safety locks of electric chains

  - Make sure of serviceability of functioning of all external lighting fixtures and a horn. In case of identification of refusals check a condition of electric chains (see appropriate sections in the Head Onboard electric equipment).
  - Make visual check of an available electrical wiring, its contact connections and intermediate clamps.

To check serviceability of functioning of stoplights and indexes of turns alone, adjust the car closely to a wall of a garage and be guided on reflected lights.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The refusal of one of stoplights or indexes of turns is most often connected with burn-out of the corresponding lamp. Detailed information on replacement of lamps of lighting fixtures is stated in Chapter 12. Single failure of both stoplights, most likely, will be explained by failure of the sensor switch (see the Head the Brake system).

2. At refusal more than one of indexes of turns or back marker lights it is necessary to check a condition of the corresponding safety lock, and also an electrical wiring of the chains protected by it (see the Head Onboard electric equipment). The main part of safety locks is collected in the assembly block equipped with a cover installed under the car dashboard from its passenger party. The additional (built-in) safety locks can directly settle down on the protected component.

3. By means of the special adaptation manufactured of plastic and fixed on a cover of the assembly block take the suspected safety lock from the nest and attentively study its state. The beaten-out safety lock should be replaced on corresponding to it on current. Let's notice that idle time of replacement of a safety lock not always appears enough for correction of a situation, - it is necessary to try to reveal and remove the chain overload cause (see the Head Onboard electric equipment).
